Rooms Hotel Kokhta
Bakuriani, Georgia 2019
Situated in Bakuriani, under the shadows of the Caucasus Mountains, Rooms Hotel Kokhta is a strikingly contemporary ski-in ski-out resort in winter and a perfect gateway to alpine experiences year-round, suited to adventure junkies and peace seekers alike.
Guided by a design concept of ‘poetic brutalism’ Rooms Hotel Kokhta was inspired by its location – specifically by the vastness and wilderness of the mountains surrounding it. It revolves around aesthetic sensibilities best described as natural, organic and simple. This idea was reflected in our usage of locally crafted materials like reclaimed wood, stone, and clay. We used these natural materials in their purest, most organic forms to revive a sense of primitivity and to highlight the permanence of nature. Hotel Interior has a contemporary feel to it and yet it unfolds hidden treasures of our historic roots. Hand carved bespoke wooden objects, custom-made terracotta lamps, salvaged Georgian artifacts, our ethnic inspired Rugs and sculptural vases from our “DNA Archives“ collection are framed by terracotta tiling, bookshelf dividers and beamed ceilings.
Most of the furniture featured in the hotel are from our limited edition “Wild Minimalism” and “DNA Archives” collections. Distinguished by human–made feel and symbolic shapes they give the Hotel a signature vibe.
An earthy, muted color palette permeates all spaces — including lower ground level gathering area. Specially created Monumental fireplace in the middle of the gathering area acts as the focal point of the space. Composed from metal, this sculpture - like fireplace is characterized by a series of bas-relief symbols embossed onto metal sheets, each one narrating a unique observation about the meaning of life. Futuristic, minimal and mystical all at once, the double-faced fireplace anchors an expansive space that brings together a gathering area, an outdoor terrace, and the hotel’s restaurant.
In guestrooms a similar theme prevails. They feature neutral washed walls, organic textures, a custom-made handcrafted Lover’s wooden beds and hand carved stone basins along with terracotta tiles. Overall design encapsulates rebirth of an archaic into contemporary.
People seeking a far more tranquil experience will find solace in the hotel spa, which combines a heated outdoor pool, a sauna and treatments rooms for a transformative experience. The Main feeling that we wanted to evoke while creating the Spa was the “Zen” like serenity - aiming for an intensely personal, almost stark space that elevates simplicity to an art form. Despite its brutalist sensibility with its concrete mass, the space has a sense of lightness and warmth. Blessed with ever- changing ample daylight, tall ceilings and peaceful surroundings, life moves at a much slower pace here. Tea Room located in the Spa, is sparsely furnished with a selection of our bespoke handmade pieces carved out of stone and reclaimed wood, they continue the theme of human–made feel and create a true feeling of being at home.
