Gheama Restaurant
Milan, Italy 2022
The main idea while designing an interior for the Gheama restaurant was to create a meditative atmosphere by using simple shapes, raw natural materials and repeating motifs of Georgian aesthetics.
Custom-made and hand painted textiles, used as curtains in the main room carry an intense, graphic visual sense. They unify the space and act almost like an imaginary boarders of the area that acts like a free style commonplace, a place of communal feast -a Georgian Supra (Supra, is a traditional Georgian feast and a part of Georgian social culture).
Original charm of the historical building was preserved and harmonized by using sculptural objects in the interior, that are stripped down to their core essence. Use of carefully curated vintage design pieces also emphasize the original vibe of the building.
Variations on Collectible Pieces by Rooms Studio specially tailored for the restaurant - such as Lover’s Sofa, Triple Console, Supra table Pomegranate Chairs, Iron Chandelier, Chess table along with tapestries such as Two Deer and Goat and the Stairs give the space a signature and a unique aesthetic.
The second a more laid-back hangout room, is created with the vision of an Archive Room in mind. A new, bottom to ceiling wall library shelves (Archive Wall Cabinet), from the Rooms Studio’s DNA Archives collection, mixture of old books, authentic Georgian artifacts and unique sculptures created by various artist invite the guests to discover something new every time they visit the Archive Room.
